Jonas Svensson
Dr. Jonas Svensson is a specialist in psychiatry and affiliated researcher at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet. His research focuses on aging and neurodegenerative diseases, with particular expertise in developing biomarkers and conducting clinical trials in these areas. Dr. Svensson holds a PhD from Karolinska Institutet, where his doctoral thesis explored the biology of depression using positron emission tomography (PET) to study the dopamine and serotonin systems. He is part of the Molecular Brain Imaging group led by Andrea Varrone and has collaborated extensively with researchers across Europe.
Dr. Svensson is actively involved in clinical trials and observational studies, notably leading the investigator-initiated ERAP Phase IIa clinical trial, which evaluates rapamycin treatment in Alzheimer’s disease and aging using in-vivo imaging. His current work includes developing biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases and conducting trials that assess brain age prediction through multimodal imaging and machine learning. Dr. Svensson ranks among the top researchers in psychiatry at Karolinska Institutet and Sweden, according to the AD Scientific Index. His work bridges clinical psychiatry and advanced neuroimaging, with the goal of improving diagnostic precision and treatment strategies for mental health disorders and neurodegenerative diseases, and he has acted as investigator and provided medical advice to studies conducted within CTC’s Site Network.
